The Alternative Christmas Market brings together non-profit organizations addressing various social issues and offers the opportunity to participate in socially conscious gift giving. Guests can purchase fair trade items and offer a donation from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Advent Festival of Lessons and Carols features a performance by Coventry Choir, a meditation by Mike Kinman on the meaning of the coming of Christ in a contemporary context at 5 p.m.
Vroman’s and All Saints Church present Anne Rice, in conversation with Christopher Rice discussing her book, “Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis: The Vampire Chronicles” at 7 p.m. Tickets are $32.70 and include a copy of the book. Call or visit the website.
Norman Lear, Our Lady of Guadalupe Service, Advent Evening Service and Gun Violence Prevention at All Saints Church
TV icon Norman Lear, creator of “All in the Family” and founder of People for the American Way speaks at 10:15 a.m. in the Rector’s Forum. The Our Lady of Guadalupe service features music and festivities in a bilingual Spanish/English service at 1 p.m. The Advent Evening Service features music by Trouvères, the Youth Chamber Choir and Vox Cambiata at 5 p.m. “We Are All Touched by Gun Violence” annual community vigil features speakers, Rector Mike Kinmas, Francisco Garcia of Holy Faith Episcopal Church and Kerwin Manning of the Pasadena Church from 7 to 8 p.m.
The Pasadena Symphony presents its annual Holiday Candlelight concerts, with the sounds of holiday classics in two performances by candlelight at 4 and 7 p.m. The orchestra is joined by featured vocalist Sarah Uriarte Berry, the Donald Brinegar Singers, the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus and the LA Bronze Handbell Ensemble. Grant Cooper conducts. Tickets are $20 and up.
