The exhibition “Woven” features works centered on the art of weaving, on view in the Sturt Haaga Gallery Tuesday through Aug. 28 during gallery hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Admission to Descanso Gardens is free the third Tuesday of every month.
Bird LA Day celebrates feathered friends as Descanso opens at 8 a.m. for bird watching and a family bird walk starts at 10 a.m., free with regular admission of $9 for adults, $6 for seniors and students, $4 for children 5 to 12, free for ages 4 and younger. Visit birdla.org.
Descanso’s Rose Festival features various activities Saturday and Sunday. A rare rose discovery station offers looks at rare and special roses from 9 a.m. to noon. Floral art activities are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Patina food service offers grilled favorites from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Floral artist Alison Franchi and makeup artist Jennifer Aspinall create a “human vase” living art work using a model as a canvas from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A Rose Garden walk and talk is led by horticulturist Molly Anne Malinick Saturday and Director of Horticulture Rachel Young Sunday, starting at 1 p.m. both days. All activities are free with regular Descanso admission of $9 for adults, $6 for seniors and students, $4 for children 5 to 12, free for those 4 and younger.
Descanso rose experts teach the best ways to take care of roses in your garden in a workshop at 10 a.m. Guests should bring gloves. Admission to Descanso Gardens and the workshop are free the third Tuesday of every month.
