44's blast the blues at ABC
By John Sollenberger 09/04/2008
Some blues acts like to use terms like “gritty” and “hard-hitting” to describe their sound. But I figure that any group whose members met at a biker rally already has a legitimate claim to those terms. That’s the case with members of the 44’s, who will be performing Friday at Arcadia Blues Club.
The 44’s actually met in 2005 at the world-famous Sturgis, SD, annual motorcycle rally. Members were playing in separate bands at the Harley-fest when they heard each other’s stuff and felt a common chemistry. The band formed soon thereafter, and they’ve been tearing up the LA and Orange County club circuits ever since.
Bassist Dug Mug Swanson, guitarist Johnny Main, drummer J.R. Lozano and harp and percussion player Tex Nakamura play blues, rock and roots music with power and style, winning rave reviews from critics with the LA Weekly and Southland Blues Magazine.
Music begins at 8 p.m. Friday with Bobby Bluehouse. The 44’s take the stage at 10:30 p.m. at Arcadia Blues Club, 16 E. Huntington Drive, Arcadia.
Call (626) 447-9349.
