As of Monday, day 4,172 of the war in Afghanistan …
2,059 American military service members (10 more than last week) have died in Afghanistan since the war began in 2001, according to the US Defense Department.

8 tons of explosives were found in eastern Kabul in a night raid. 5 suspected terrorists were killed and 2 others were wounded on Friday during a firefight. According to Reuters, the explosives — which were defused — were part of a truck bomb which would have destroyed everything within 1,500 meters of the blast, according to one Afghan official.

2 US troops were killed during an insider attack Monday in Afghanistan. According to The New York Times, an Afghan police officer fired on American Special Operations troops and Afghan forces in the second such attack in 3 days.

83 Afghan army battalions and district chiefs of police in southern Afghanistan are now being advised and trained by US forces. According to the American Forces Press Service, the Brigade advisory teams will continue to train and advise their Afghan counterparts for the duration of the drawdown.
