As of Monday, day 4,613 of the war in Afghanistan … 

American military service members (5 more than last week) have been reported killed in Afghanistan since the war began in 2001, according to The Associated Press. 

bombs struck the convoy carrying Afghanistan presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah last Friday. According to Reuters, Abdullah was unharmed and went on to speak at a campaign event. 6 others were killed.

American service members — one of them 24-year-old Staff Sgt. Scott Studenmund of Pasadena — were killed in Afghanistan on Monday when a coalition jet, called in to help ward off a Taliban attack, mistakenly bombed them.  

people were killed in Syria, including women and children, during operations allegedly carried out across Syria on Sunday by forces loyal to the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, according to opposition activists. The UN no longer updates its death toll for the battle between rebels and the Syrian government.
