American military service members (1 more than last week) have been reported killed in Afghanistan since the war began in 2001, according to The Associated Press.

people have been killed in Iraq and 700 in Syria by the State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). According to Reuters, reliable sources reported that beheadings were used to execute people from the al-Sheitaat tribe. The leader of the tribe sent out a video that day calling for other tribes to unite against the group.  

 

 

civilians were killed in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan. The United Nations reported in July that the civilian death toll in the war in Afghanistan rose 17 percent for the first half of this year. The UN said 1,564 civilians were killed from January through June, compared with 1,342 in the first 6 months of 2013.

information is being released about the number of National Guardsmen deployed in Ferguson, Mo. Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon called in the Guard on Monday after rioting entered its second straight week following the officer-involved shooting death of Michael Brown. Nixon would not reveal how many soldiers had been deployed in Ferguson.
