Judges with the California Newspaper Publisher’s Association have nominated the Pasadena Weekly for several awards in this year’s Better Newspapers Contest.
Contest officials notified the paper last week that cover designs by Art Director Agnes Carrera, arts and entertainment coverage by Calendar Editor Carl Kozlowski and Arts Editor Julie Riggott and last year’s Fall Arts Preview issue are all in the running for First Place awards.
Winners will be named on July 15 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City.
Judges also named the Weekly’s ongoing coverage of violations of the voter-approved campaign finance reform law Measure B by Pasadena City Council members as worthy of honorable mention, presenting a certificate of achievement to Editor Kevin Uhrich and Deputy Editor Joe Piasecki for investigative or enterprise reporting.
