Victor Wright’s perseverance in living a productive life despite severe handicaps has been an inspiration to many in Pasadena and Altadena. The former John Muir High School junior varsity fullback was left quadriplegic after making a tackle during a 1976 game, but that didn’t stop him from earning a degree from Los Angeles City College, cofounding a nonprofit organization and meeting his goal of becoming a financial analyst.

On Saturday, the community will attempt to inspire him.

Volunteers with the local nonprofit Rebuilding Together Pasadena are teaming up to make a series of repairs on the Wright family’s Altadena home. On the to-do list: replacing the kitchen floor, counters and stove; rebuilding cabinets in the laundry room; and, most importantly, replacing the house’s wheelchair ramp — a necessity for Wright’s mobility and, by extension, his quality of life.

Work will also take place on May 3.

For his courage in the face of adversity, Wright was inducted last year into the John Muir High School Hall of Fame.
