Claudia Russell takes the stage at Coffee Gallery

By John Sollenberger 09/24/2009

A VERSATILE SINGER/SONGWRITER PERFORMS SATURDAY NIGHT AT COFFEE gallery Backstage in the person of Claudia Russell. The soulful singer blends a tasty combo of folk, rock, blues and country into a package that’s won her acclaim in respected music circles.

Russell is a two-time finalist at the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas and was picked in 2000 as New Artist of the Year by Boston folk radio station WUMB. She’s shared stages with no less talent than Tracy Grammer, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Dave Carter and many others. She’s also performed as backup singer on numerous recordings and has released two CDs of her own, the latest being “Ready to Receive,” which has received airplay on dozens of radio stations nationwide.

Saturday night, she appears with her Folk Unlimited Orchestra, including husband Bruce Kaplan on mandolin and guitar, Mark Petrella on upright bass and Carl Byron on keyboards and accordion.

Music starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at Coffee Gallery Backstage, 2029 N. Lake Ave., Altadena.  Call (626) 398-7917.
