Accordion parts and artillery shells land at Caltech
By John Sollenberger 10/02/2008
ScrapArtsMusic, which will be performing Friday night at Caltech, is, to say the least, a unique ensemble: five musical athletes traveling the environmental road, using recycled industrial scrap materials to fashion instruments — shining up everything from old accordion parts to spent artillery shells to construct a visually stunning spectacle of musical gear.
The sensually stimulating show is a high-energy event, complete with complex rhythms, raw energy and athletic choreography that leaves audiences gasping.
ScrapArtsMusic got its start busking on the streets of Vancouver. A lucky big break got them a spot in an NBA half-time show, and from there the act transformed from the antics of quirky musicians to a polished theatrical experience.
Don’t miss it.
Music starts at 8 p.m. Friday in Beckman Auditorium on the Caltech campus at 1200 E. California Blvd., Pasadena. Call (626) 395-4652.
