Richardson, Reid coming to town

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will be in the area this week to raise money for the campaigns of fellow Democrats.

Former presidential hopeful Richardson — who was born at Pasadena’s Huntington Hospital in 1947 — is leading a fundraiser for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign today in South Pasadena.

Reid is set to appear Sunday at a Pasadena event supporting the campaign of Jill Derby, a former college professor and administrator who is running for Congress in Reid’s home state of Nevada.

The Richardson event begins with a reception at 8 a.m. followed by a 9 a.m. speech and gathering at a private home. Also expected to attend are LA City Council President Eric Garcetti, former Pasadena Mayor Rick Cole and El Centro de Acción Social Executive Director Randy Jurado Ertll.

Organizers are asking for contributions of $250 to $1,000 to meet Richardson.

Obama visited Pasadena for a June 2007 fundraiser, and his wife Michelle headlined a second Pasadena event on May 28.

The Reid gathering will start at 2 p.m. at the Pasadena home of John J. Kennedy, a community activist who recently served as chair of the Pasadena Community Development Committee. Kennedy is the brother of Lena Kennedy, a member of the National Finance Committee for the Obama campaign and chair of its national Women’s Leadership Initiative.
She is taking RSVPs for both of this week’s fund-raisers at (626) 993-4466.
