Second Annual Monet Cares Institute for girls kicks off Aug. 1
The three-day Monet Cares Music, Theater and Health Institute will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 1-2 at Maranatha High School, 169 S. St. John Ave, Pasadena. The event, which is for girls ages 7 to 17, shifts to the Paseo Colorado on Aug. 3 and begins at 1:30 p.m. A showcase event will be held at 4:30 p.m. that day.
The event includes classes in acting, singing, dancing, fitness, nutrition and healthy lifestyles. It includes a college student panel, a motivational speaker panel and celebrity guest appearance. There will also be a hands-on cooking demonstration with a chef from Pasadena’s California Pizza Kitchen. This year’s event also includes a Healthy Living for Parents workshop to help parents learn about creating a healthy home environment for their families. Participants will be fed breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack on the first two days and late lunch and a snack on the final day.
Registration is $150. Payment plans and some scholarships are available.
“It’s very important to invest in our youth and encourage them in their growth so they can reach their maximum goal in life,” said organizer Monet Bagneris.
Monet Cares is a nonprofit organization that provides resources, training and mentoring to children and their families. The group seeks to expand knowledge of healthy lifestyles and the performing arts in order to bridge the achievement gap.

Pasadena Village to present workshop on alternative transportation for seniors
The Pasadena Village will host a representative from ACCESS Services at 11 a.m. Monday at the Flintridge Center, 236 W. Mountain St., Room #115, to discuss alternate forms of public transportation.
ACCESS is a shared ride van service which provides curb-to-curb service and is run by the Los Angeles Department of Transportation. A representative from ACCESS will be on hand to answer questions about the application process and what to expect from the services.
The Pasadena Village is a nonprofit group that connects seniors to services, programs and cultural activities that encourage them to stay independent.
