Chris Cain double shot at ABC
By John Sollenberger 11/06/2008
It’s almost as if Chris Cain was born to play the blues. You can get a double shot of the results Friday and Saturday night as Cain and his band play at Arcadia Blues Club.
Cain grew up hearing stories of his father’s upbringing on Beale Street, Memphis’ historic blues Mecca.
Blues music played constantly at his home and family activities frequently included trips to concerts. He attended his first B.B. King concert at the tender age of 3. He taught himself to play guitar at 8, and before turning 18 he was already playing professionally.
He studied music and then taught it at San Jose City College, becoming a multi-instrumentalist along the way. The blues upbringing and jazz studies blended to form a blazing guitar style that’s made him a star of the genre.
Cain has released a string of records over the years; his debut recording, “Late Night City Blues,” earned four W.C. Handy Blues Award nominations, a pretty amazing freshman effort. His latest CD is “Hall of Shame” on Blue Rock’it Records.
Bobby Bluehouse opens at 8 p.m. and Chris Cain goes on at 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Arcadia Blues Club, 16 E. Huntington Drive, Arcadia. Call (626) 447-9349.
