Daddies dearest
Two Pasadenans team up to help restore deteriorating father-son bonds

There’s a crisis in America’s families: Large numbers of kids are growing up without ever knowing their fathers. And as a result, fatherless children suffer infant mortality, asthma, poverty and incarceration at far greater rates than most.
But two Pasadena residents — Giacomo Knox and Krys Fehairvari — have come up with a unique solution, at least for boys without dads, creating a reality TV show reuniting estranged fathers and sons for a week and then showing the powerful results of these the renewed bonds.
But first, they need to raise $40,000 for production costs, a herculean effort that gets under way Friday night with “An Evening for a Lifetime,” a special event at the Warehouse space at Pasadena’s Lake Avenue Church.
Attendees will enjoy a soulful Southern-style dinner as well as a pair of classy musical acts. First, Patty Dorsey, grand-niece of famed 1940s band leader Tommy Dorsey, will sing a program of popular standards, then the Randy Taylor Jazz Band will heat up the stage. There may even be some special surprise guests guaranteed to make you laugh.
“This show gives fathers and sons the opportunity to meet, talk, ask questions and heal while doing father and son activities, like going to a baseball game,” says Knox. “The potential impact on our society is exciting!”
“An Evening for a Lifetime” is at 7 p.m. Friday at the Warehouse at Lake Avenue Church, 393 N. Lake Ave., Pasadena. Tickets are $30. Call (818) 240-8193. Those unable to attend but who wish to help can send contributions in checks payable to A Week With My Father LLC to Western Boy Productions, 261 E. Colorado Blvd., #215, Pasadena. — Carl Kozlowski
