America’s best divers come to Pasadena to compete for a spot on the US Olympic team

By Carl Kozlowski 07/17/2008

This has been an exciting month for sports, as Wimbledon watchers got to see what historians are already calling the greatest tennis match ever played, and the Dodgers came just one hit away from playing a perfect game.

Now the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center is offering plenty of additional action as the 2008 Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships hit town Tuesday through July 27.

The athletic prowess on display should be impressive during this last round of competition before American divers travel to Beijing to participate in the 2008 Olympics. Each of the six days will showcase the most accomplished 2008 American divers, including Gold Medalist Laura Wilkinson, in events on the one- and three-meter spring boards and 10-meter platform.

Next Sunday, July 27, will be the Olympic Send-Off Gala 2008, with attendees viewing an exclusive diving exhibition by members of the US Olympic Dive Team, while savoring a poolside gourmet dinner under the stars. Festivities will conclude with a “Go for the Gold” fireworks display.

Tickets for the championships — which will be held at the Aquatic Center at  360 N. Arroyo Blvd. in Pasadena — are $10 per day for adults,  $7 for children ages 3 to 17 and seniors 55 and over on Tuesday through Friday.

On July 26 and 27, tickets will be $15 for adults and $10 for children and seniors. The gala at the Aquatic Center is at 6 p.m. July 27 and costs $150 per person. Tickets are available at (213) 480-3232 or at www.ticketmaster.com.
