DOUBLE COUNTRY
Tumbling Tumbleweeds and Joyce Woodson ride high into Coffee Gallery
By John Sollenberger 12/03/2009
GUESTS ARE IN FOR A DOUBLE SHOT OF COUNTRY AND WESTERN LOVE SATURDAY when the Coffee Gallery Backstage presents The Tumbling Tumbleweeds, followed by the sweet sounds of singer/songwriter/guitarist Joyce Woodson.
The Tumbling Tumbleweeds have scored big industry kudos since debuting at Coffee Gallery in 2007. The group, which started out as a tribute to the iconic group Sons of the Pioneers, captured the 2008 Academy of Western Artists Will Rogers Award for Western Music Group of the Year and the Western Music Association Crescendo Award for Most Promising Talent, along with various other awards. They spice up their shows with doses of storytelling, humor and fancy footwork.
Then Woodson takes the stage in one of her rare West Coast appearances. Like the Tumbleweeds, Woodson won the 2008 Academy of Western Artists Will Rogers Award, in her case for Best Female Performer of the Year, and the Western Music Association’s Song of the Year for the title cut of her CD, “If I Hadn’t Seen the West.”
Woodson’s in the middle of a solo tour in support of her two independently released albums.
Music starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at Coffee Gallery Backstage, 2029 N. Lake Ave., Altadena. Call (626) 398-7917.
