Eggshell Egoz should be a smash
By John Sollenberger 05/07/2008
Since the entertainment business isn’t the place for people with easily bruised egos, I just had to check out the band Eggshell Egoz. After a quick listen, I’d say this Highland Park quintet should be a smash at McMurphy’s in Old Pasadena Wednesday night.
This is a good, solid rock band with a taste of funk, a little bit of grind and a pinch of sweetness thrown in. Tasty vocals top this rock omelet for a clean, accessible sound. Formed in 2001 by guitarist Dave Walker and vocalist Dave Whitton, Eggshell Egoz take influences from all over, from Parliament to Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, The Cars, Tom Petty, and
Ben Harper.
As the band’s Web site puts it, “What do you get when you mix Jack Johnson with Sublime, then sprinkle on some Chili Peppers? A bunch of Eggshell Egoz.”
Music starts at 9 p.m. Wednesday at McMurphy’s, 72 N. Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena. Call (626) 666-1445.
