Proceeds from Library Restoration Concerts do
exactly that — in particular maintaining the library’s community room, where the events are staged. The fall season kicks off Sept. 21 with works by Mendelssohn and Kirchner performed by the XYZ Piano Trio — cellist Xian Zhuo, violinist Yi-Ting Chen and pianist Sergei Kuznetsov — at 4 p.m. Tickets are $18.

Thousands of people enjoyed 30-plus acts on several stages during last year’s festival — thanks to the hardworking staff of the Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock. A full list of this year’s acts is pending, but buzz is already building about local indie rockers Earlimart,
who on July 1 released an album titled “Hymn and Her.”

A series of six concerts by the California Philharmonic kicks off on Nov. 8 with “Webber meets Puccini” at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, a show featuring music from “Phantom of the Opera,” “Madame Butterfly” and “Evita.” See the Web site for information on later shows, including performances at the Ambassador Auditorium.

Started by Caltech graduate students in 1983, the Caltech Folk Music Society has continually brought world-class acoustic musicians to Pasadena, and this fall is no exception. Celtic harpist Patrick Ball and accompanying musicians play on Sept. 6, and in October they offers three interesting concerts (two of them in partnership with Caltech presents — see events.caltech.edu).

For years flashy Pasadena Jazz Institute founder Paul Lines promoted fall concert series, but now he has his own spacious venue on the second floor of the Paseo Colorado mall. Now jazz is a regular occurrence in the heart of the Crown City (call or check the Web for details), and drinks and dinner are served before the show.

Pasadena Presbyterian Church hosts Music at Noon concerts on Wednesdays year-round, from 12:10 to 12:40. Everyone is invited to the church’s patio to enjoy a half-hour concert featuring all types of bands from around the Pasadena area. Admission is free but lunch is available for a $6 donation, the concerts are a great way to spend a lunch break.
