'Food, glorious food'
‘Oliver!’ comes to Glendale’s Alex Theatre
By Leigh Kennicott 11/20/2008
There will be no shortage of starving orphans appearing in Glendale with Friday and Saturday performances of “Oliver!” at the Alex Theatre.
Produced by the Full Circle Opera Project of Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, this latest adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens tale “Oliver Twist” will showcase the singing, acting and dancing skills of the talented kids from the prestigious public school magnet located on the campus of Cal State LA.
Originating in London in 1960, the musical moved to Broadway three years later, playing at the Imperial and Shubert theatres before becoming a hit movie in 1968.
There are several innovative ways to purchase tickets for the weekend run: Glendale residents (or seniors) can simply show a picture ID with a Glendale zip code (or age) to receive up to two discount tickets. Friends of the Alex are eligible for two-for-one tickets when purchased at the box office.
Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Alex Theatre, 216 N. Brand Blvd., Glendale. Tickets are $20 for orchestra, $18 for terrace. Call (818) 243-ALEX (2539).
