Get to know Michelle
By Carl Kozlowski 05/22/2008
Alongside every great man stands a great woman, and as the 2008 presidential campaign unfolds, Michelle Obama — wife of front-running Democratic candidate Barack Obama — is living up to that old adage. A spirited community leader in her own right in their hometown of Chicago, Obama has made plenty of headlines herself during the race and will be arriving in Pasadena on Wednesday for a $500-per-person fundraiser.
The luncheon and speech, to be held in a private residence revealed only to attendees, should include plenty of interesting stories from the campaign trail as well as fresh insights into the prospective first lady and
her philosophies.
“On the one hand it’s an opportunity to further enhance Barack’s campaign, and to answer a lot of the questions people ask of her and the role she intends to play as the first lady,” said Ralph McKnight, co-chair of the Organization & Development Committee of the California Democratic Party. “Since it’s a fairly intimate gathering, there might be a chance to ask questions of her that you might normally not get to ask of Barack himself, and by the time of the luncheon Barack for all intents and purposes will be the nominee. The Republicans are organizing some very insidious attacks on her and it’ll be a strategy of the campaign. Perhaps she might speak to that, but if I were her I wouldn’t dignify that.”
