A touch of glamour will be added to an important day of information on AIDS on Wednesday when Democratic Assemblyman Anthony Portantino of La Cañada Flintridge and City of Hope host the 6th Annual HIV/AIDS Action Summit, featuring a special appearance by “Project Runway” All-Star Mondo Guerra.
The event, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the City of Hope’s Cooper Auditorium, brings together experts and activists from across the nation engaging in a discussion about vital issues concerning the prevention, treatment and cure of HIV and AIDS.
Guerra will present the speech, “Get Real About HIV,” while a more traditional medical perspective will be provided by Dr. Alexandra Levine, chief medical officer for City of Hope and former research chair for the President’s Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS.
The event will also feature the online video launch for the advocacy campaign “I’m Here Because …” and will also include a discussion of “The Changing Face of HIV Prevention.”
“The San Gabriel Valley HIV/AIDS Action Summit raises awareness about HIV and AIDS and efforts to prevent new infections and keep HIV-positive patients healthy,” said Portantino. “And this year we are especially pleased to have Mondo Guerra talk about getting young people involved in the fight against AIDS.”
The summit is free and open to the public. City of Hope is at 1500 E. Duarte Road, Duarte.
