Lovers of American roots music can catch some stalwarts of the genre Saturdays in August at Casey’s Irish Pub in downtown LA, as I See Hawks In LA take up a month-long residency.

Rob Waller and brothers Paul and Anthony Lacques formed the band in 1999. They soon gathered on the front porch of a member’s home in Echo Park, beers in hand, and wrote some songs. Members sought advice from friend and John Denver bassist David Jackson, who set up a recording session. That session led to the band’s first self-titled CD.

From there, things really took off. The CD established the group’s signature sound of three-part harmonies, twanging guitar and stripped-down acoustic work. They soon began playing to rave reviews and established themselves in LA’s alternative country scene.
Named Best Country Artist in 2002 and 2003 by the LA Weekly, I See Hawks In LA has since toured the US and Europe while maintaining close ties to the roots music scene here at home.

Their latest CD is “Hallowed Ground,” available at iseehawks.com.

Music starts at 10 p.m. Saturday at Casey’s Irish Pub, 613 S. Grand Ave., Los Angeles. Call (213) 629-2353.
