THE DEATH OF PUNK ROCK HAS BEEN DECLARED TIME AND AGAIN BUT, LIKE  the phoenix, it just keeps rising from the grave. Witness a resurrection of sorts Saturday night, when legends of the genre Mike Watt and His Secondmen play at the Redwood Bar & Grill.

Bassist and vocalist Watt got in on the ground floor of the LA punk scene in 1980 when, along with guitarist D. Boon, he formed the legendary Minutemen. This wildly popular band went on to record five albums before the untimely death of Boon in a 1985 traffic accident. Watt’s next major project, Firehose, went on to record several discs before disbanding in 1993.

Since then, Watt has kept a busy performing and recording schedule, releasing several solo discs, collaborating with numerous artists and touring the world, working as a sideman in several bands, notably with pre-punk visionaries Iggy Pop and The Stooges in 2003.

He recently completed a disc recorded in Japan with his project, Brothers Sisters Daughters.

Music starts at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Redwood Bar & Grill, 316 W. 2nd St., Los Angeles. Call (213) 680-2600.
