Hot beat, visual treats

Hot beat, visual treats

Music lovers should rejoice this weekend, as two distinctly different major events hit the area on Friday and Saturday.

Friday the Pasadena Museum of California Art unveils its first-ever multimedia celebration, “8eight8” from 8 p.m. to midnight. Bringing hot beats as well as visual treats, the PMCA is hosting three deejays and a cash bar on the rooftop terrace in addition to performances from Poo-Bah record label artists Matthew David, Take, Ras G and Sacred & Nobody and  custom light and graphics shows with gallery viewing on the second floor. Admission is free for PMCA members and just $5 for non-members.

The Autry National Center kicks it to another level with its own party on Saturday, teaming with Netflix to present a celebrity concert with a TV-star-studded group, aptly named Band From TV.

“Desperate Housewives” star Teri Hatcher is lead vocalist, with backing from Hayden Panettiere and Adrian Pasdar of “Heroes.”

Their backing band is composed of “Desperate Housewives” hunk James Denton on guitar, “Heroes” actor Greg Grunberg on drums, “House M.D.” actor Jesse Spencer on rock violin, and vocalist Bob Guiney of “The Bachelor” and “Date My House.”

All the stars hit the red carpet at 6:30 p.m., with the band taking the stage at 7 p.m. and a special screening of classic TV episodes from “Mary Tyler Moore,” “The Bob Newhart Show,” “The Cosby Show” and “The Muppet Show” closing out the evening, which is free to the public.
