Hot nights, cool sounds
KCRW’s Summer Nights Series returns to One Colorado
By John Sollenberger 06/05/2013
With warm weather on the way, it’s time once again for KCRW 89.9 FM’s “Summer Nights” free music series, when the courtyard at One Colorado comes alive with a series of Saturday night concerts featuring acts not usually found on Top 40 radio.
This Saturday’s show, hosted by KCRW Deejay Valida, features avant-garde rockers Hot as Sun. This young LA threesome boasts sunny, synth-pop sounds, with cutting hooks and atmospheric melodies — just the thing for an evening under the stars, as guests enjoy pre-concert drinks and maybe a bite to eat from any of One Colorado’s dining establishments.
Hot As Sun, named one of Buzzband LA’s Bands to Watch for 2013, has gained a pop-art aura by performing from one end of the country to another at festivals, concerts and art galleries. The LA Times compared the sound to “The Supremes throwing a dance party with the Strokes.
Their first disc is the recently released “Night Time Sound Desire.”
Music starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at One Colorado, 41 Hugus Alley, in the heart of Old Pasadena. No cover. Call (626) 564-1066 or visitonecolorado.com.
