Super Diamond flashes multiple facets of Neil
By John Sollenberger 07/22/2010
The Summer Soundzz music series at Pasadena’s Civic Center Plaza continues Friday night with Super Diamond, a Neil Diamond tribute band out of San Francisco that is sure to have fans singing along.
The group is headed by Randy Cordero, performing as “Surreal Neil,” who launched the act in 1993. These guys put on one high-powered show. Even their stage attire is a tribute to Diamond’s heyday of the late 1960s and early ’70s, with sequined shirts and velvet bell-bottoms. But more important than the look is the performance. Together, the band replicates Diamond’s sound to perfection. If you weren’t looking at the stage, you’d swear it was him. They’ve taken the act all around the country to sold-out houses and enthusiastic crowds, even marketing their own line of signature merchandise. This promises to be one hot summer night at the Plaza.
Music starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Pasadena Civic Center Plaza, 300 E. Green St., Pasadena. Tickets are $20 general admission, $30 for a table seat, $250 for a private table for 10. Call (800) 745-3000 or visit ticketmaster.com for tickets.
