I say 'Hello'
Hello Dragon brings Echo Park indie rock to the Old Towne
By Joe Piasecki 02/14/2008
Sure, it's usually the job of our music critics to let you know about the best local acts of the week - and Bliss and John are doing a fine job - but I have ears too, and for my money it's Hello Dragon.
While their sound may be a little slower than an impatient bar crowd is used to, the music pulls you in right away and makes you want to stay for melodic guitar hooks and remarkably creative lyrics linking rats in palm trees, Machu Picchu, El Chupacabra, Stephen Hawking and other unexpected things to life and love in Los Angeles.
If my word isn't good enough, the band has been featured on Indie 103.1 FM's "Check-One-Two" program and KROQ-FM's "Locals Only" show. To find out for yourself, visit www.myspace.com/hellodragonmusic to hear songs featured on the group's recently self-produced CD, well worth the $5.
The show starts at 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Old Towne Pub, 66 N. Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena. Call (626) 577-6583.
