Island fever in Old Town
Singer/Songwriter Bahamas kicks off KCRW Summer Nights
By John Sollenberger 06/07/2012
One of the great things about summertime in Pasadena is the wealth of free musical events happening all over town.
Saturday night is a good case in point, as KCRW’s Summer Nights music series begins at the One Colorado Courtyard, in the heart of Old Pasadena, providing a nice opportunity to drink and dine and catch cutting-edge music under the stars. This week’s installment features singer/songwriter and guitarist Bahamas.
Bahamas is the musical pseudonym of Afie Jurvanen. The Canadian-born musician has made a name playing in a variety of bands, gaining fame as the touring guitarist for the band Feist. He’s also performed with acts including The Stills, Howie Beck, Amy Millen and Zeus.
His music, characterized as a laid-back trip into the world of tropical pop, is both captivating and melodic — a trip to the islands without ever leaving town.
Check him out at bahamasmusic.net. KCRW deejay Valida hosts the show.
Music starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at One Colorado, Colorado Boulevard between De Lacey and Fair Oaks avenues, in Old Pasadena. Admission is free. Call (626) 564-1066 or visit onecolorado.com.
