Keepin' it real ... inexpensive
It’s easy and fun to keep in style for under $100

Being stylish for under $100 is an idea that has piqued my interest for some time now. That said, the next few articles I write will be dedicated to hunting down great stylish items that make a complete outfit; items a budget-conscious fashionista can easily integrate into her pre-existing wardrobe.
I won’t bore you with the downbeat mood associated with the now all-too-common word “recession,” however much it has come to smack me in my face and ruthlessly take its toll on my summer wardrobe. For too long now I
have been staring in the face of temptation, and turning it down. Of course, in doing this, my closet has become sub-par, as has my attitude.
So if this is happening to me, it is certainly must be happening to other loyal fashionistas. So to ease our suffering, I have hunted down great pieces to create an entire outfit — all for way under $100.
There are plenty of cheap buys around Pasadena. Few, however, are cheap and truly smart for the money. I have scoured the town to bring you some of my favorite pieces from some of my favorite budget-friendly shopping destinations. I hope you enjoy.
Let’s start with a crisp white dress, something always on my list of summer essentials, and this vintage number is no less than perfect for any occasion, whether it’s for going out for a day of shopping, a barbecue or just a night out with the girls. When paired with this amazing vintage denim mini-vest, the dress is so adorable I snapped it right up. Both are available at Aardvarks, 33 W. Green St., Pasadena.
The dress is on sale at 50 percent off for $22.50. The vest, also on sale at 50 percent off, goes for $17.50.
An outfit isn’t complete without the right accessories, one area that I am lenient on when it comes to übertrends. That’s because sometimes a trendy accessory is just what an ensemble needs — that essential finishing touch.
I fell in love with a pair of suede sandals, a perfect rendition of this summer’s über- trendy fringe sandal. Pulling the whole outfit together is a snap with an adorable braided suede necklace. Both are available at Veronica M, 30 W. Colorado Blvd., in Old Pasadena.
Fringe sandals go for $36. The braided suede necklace is just $10.
So you see, recession or no recession, there are lots of bargains out there to suit every price range. You just need to know where to look for them.
