The biblical horror is reinvigorated by mixing actors from different eras and film experiences. Angels come to Earth as both killers and saviors because God, displeased with mankind, orders them to bring on the Apocalypse. Archangel Michael (Bettany) attempts to circumvent his orders after sensing a pregnant waitress may be carrying a very special child. An out-of-the-way diner becomes an unlikely battleground where Michael encourages his human charges to take up arms against angels sprouting enormous wings as Michael takes to the air. Now that’s a dogfight.
