Local favorites rock McMurphy's

If you’re in the mood for some hot sounds of the indie variety, check out McMurphy’s in Old Pasadena Friday night when local heroes Squeegee and Stonyatti take the stage.

Montebello-based Squeegee has been playing an eclectic mix of Americana, surf and power pop for the past five years. This self-described “full-on party band” has had its share of ups and downs over the years, going through numerous personnel changes since its inception, but finally found the right chemistry to go into production on its first album.

Pasadena-based Stonyatti, on the scene since 2001, plays a blend of psychedelic rock and funk. These forefathers of the “spamband” movement of the early 21st century — whose influences include Frank Zappa and Frank Sinatra — encourage listeners to think of their sound this way: “Imagine pouring whiskey and Pop Rocks in your ears (do not attempt!).”

The Voiceovers and Shawn Ford also perform. Music starts at 9 p.m. Friday at McMurphy’s, 72 N. Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena. Call (626) 666-1445.
