Lisa Haley & the Zydekats bring high-energy Cajun sounds
By John Sollenberger 07/10/2014
The Pasadena Folk Music Society offers a special concert Saturday night featuring hot Louisiana sounds by Lisa Haley & the Zydekats. The concert is somewhat of a departure for the Society, as this is only the second time it has offered a concert featuring zydeco music rather than its usual folk offerings.
Lisa Haley has made quite a name for herself over the years. The virtuoso fiddler, dancer, vocalist and songwriter and her band have toured the world promoting the gospel of Louisiana bayou music for almost two decades. Haley and company have toured with acts including Brian Setzer, John Hiatt and Queen Ida, among many others. The band of top-notch musicians delivers an energetic show, featuring joyful sounds appealing to all ages. The Zydekats’ CD “King Cake” received a Grammy nomination in 2007.
Their latest disc, “Joy Ride,” has received rave reviews across the board. Visit them at bluefiddle.com.
Music starts at 8 p.m. Saturday in Caltech’s Beckman Institute Auditorium, 400 S. Wilson Ave., Pasadena. Tickets are $20, $5 for children and Caltech students. Call (626) 395-4652 or visit folkmusic.caltech.edu.
