Missingmen Materialize at Old Towne Pub
By John Sollenberger 03/27/2008
From local bands to rock gods, the Old Towne Pub sports a diverse lineup. On Saturday night, punk legend Mike Watt and the Missingmen appear.
Watt was the bassist in the seminal punk band the Minutemen, and later worked with fIREHOSE as well as the reunited Stooges. He formed the Missingmen to record a follow-up to his 2004 effort, “The Secondman’s Middle Stand,” by his band the Secondmen. The name refers to the fact that on a 2005 European tour, neither of the other Secondmen were able to participate. Watt put the band together in 2006 to produce his third punk-rock opera, “Ten and Twenty Does Not Make Fifty,” a follow-up to 1997’s “Contemplating the Engine Room” and the aforementioned “Middle Stand.”
Joining Watt are guitarist Tom Watson, who gigged with him in previous bands, and Raul Morales, a longtime punk-scene fixture in the band’s hometown of San Pedro who also joined Watt when subbing with the Secondmen.
Mike Watt and the Missingmen start at 10 p.m. Saturday at the Old Towne Pub, 66 N. Fair Oaks, Pasadena (behind the Container Store). Call (626) 577-6583. www.myspace.com/missingmen
