The happiest of all hours
We’ve seen our share of happy hours around Old Pasadena, and there are quite a few after-work bargains out there.
Beckham Grill, serving up gastro-pub gourmet with its hot bowls of French onion soup and crispy porcupine shrimps, and McCormick and Schmick’s, with its classic half-pound burger and Willapa Bay oyster shooters, come to mind immediately, as much for their lowered prices as the grub and grog itself.
But a new kid on the block —Dena House, at 42 S. DeLacey Ave. in Old Pasadena — is giving the old reliables a run for our money. Happy hour at this contemporary American restaurant, bar and sushi house includes on-site house-brewed beers for a mere $2.50 for a 16 ounce glass or just $3 for a hefty 22-ouncer, plus buffalo wings, shrimp tempura rolls or crispy gyoza, each for under $5 a plate.
Check out happy hour at Dena House from 3 to 10 p.m. Mondays or from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Call (626) 405-9114 or visit denahouse.com
A chocolate soufflé for your troubles
Roy’s in Pasadena is switching up their prix-fixe menu for fall. But don’t worry — their decadent chocolate soufflé isn’t going anywhere.
In keeping with the restaurant’s commitment to using fresh seasonal flavors, the new prix-fixe menu will summon the changing season with dishes such as prosciutto-wrapped tiger shrimp with goat-cheese polenta, and spicy Asian pepper and lemongrass sirloin. And, of course, after all the ‘hard’ work of eating those first two savory courses, what better way to reward yourself than with Roy’s signature Melting Hot Chocolate Soufflé for course No. 3.
Swing by the acclaimed Hawaiian Fusion eatery for a prix-fixe meal, $35 per person, at 641 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena. Call (626) 356-4066 or visit roysrestaurant.com.
Pint-sized goodness
Pints of beer meet pint-sized desserts and other new goodies at The Yard House in Pasadena this fall. Known for its 100-plus selections of draft beer and American fusion-style cuisine, The Yard House is revamping its menu with such new items as the surf and turf burger topped with Swiss cheese or grilled asparagus and Maine lobster. Dig into smaller portions of pastries and soufflés guilt-free with the restaurant’s new pint-sized desserts addition. The Yard House is located at Paseo Colorado, 330 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena.
