Power lunch

Ditch the five-buck foot-long for lunch this week and upgrade to a real sandwich at the Pasadena Sandwich Company.  This underappreciated little gem has been serving mile-high sandwiches to hungry lunchgoers for 10 years now.  And while its nondescript exterior may have you circling the block once or twice to find it, the search will prove more than worth it.
Moist and tender in-house prepared sandwich meat is the most distinguishing feature in PSC’s sandwiches, along with relatively decent prices for the huge portions served.  Their traditional American sandwiches tour the country with names like the New Yorker ($6.95), with smoked ham, turkey breast and Swiss cheese on a French roll, and the Chicago ($7.25), piled high with corned beef, pastrami, Swiss cheese and cole slaw on rye.
The Turkey Supreme ($6.95) is the local favorite, prepared with juicy sliced turkey breast, Jack cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo on a fresh kaiser roll.  If you’re in the mood, you can even design your own sandwich — the PSC Big Mouth, it’s called — for $8.25. Still not sure what you want? Order a Trust the Cook ($7.95) and let him decide.  No matter what, he promises to send an extra massive sandwich your way.
PSC is open from 9 to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 3p.m.  Saturday. They offer table service, take-out, party platters and accept major credit cards. Swing by PSC at 259 Sierra Madre Villa Ave., Pasadena. Call (626) 578-1548 or visit pasadenasandwichcompany.com.
