Multicultural eats
meet local charm at Restaurant Lozano
Restaurant Lozano in Sierra Madre describes their cuisine broadly as “regional California and American,” and serves dishes that range from Mexican tacos and jerk chicken to penne with Italian sausage. Regardless of region or style, consider this charming little restaurant a universally chic and delicious choice for lunch or dinner.
The lunch and dinner menus at Lozano are essentially the same, but adjusted for quantity and price. For a lighter dinner, try the warm spinach and smoked applewood bacon salad ($17), served with pan-roasted chicken breast and topped with tangy house vinaigrette. If you’re in the mood for something heartier, order the roasted vegetable chilaquiles ($18), a traditional Mexican tortilla casserole with layers of cheese, beans and a chipotle salsa. Or try the elegant bacon-wrapped filet ($32), cooked just right, with sautéed spinach and creamy mashed potatoes on the side.
While the dinner menu at Lozano is as delicious as it is varied, the dessert menu alone is worth the trip. The red yam flan ($7.75), a classic Mexican custard made with sweet potatoes, seems to be the most popular dessert. If you’re more of a chocolate person, the flourless chocolate cake ($7.95) or chocolate bread pudding ($7.95) will more than satisfy your sweet tooth.
Lozano’s 44 N. Baldwin Ave. location in Sierra Madre’s quaint downtown area makes it a particularly sweet spot to take a date. Call (626) 355-5945 or visit restaurantlozano.com.
