Although the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has had its critics, the state health care exchange has been booming due to a sharp increase over the past month, which saw more than 1.1 million Americans sign up for coverage through the federal health-care marketplace.

The local alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Jackie Robinson Community Center will present a forum on the ACA at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Jackie Robinson Center, 1020 N Fair Oaks Ave, Pasadena.

“This is a very important event,” said Gwen McMullins, who serves as a co-chairperson on Delta’s Social Action Committee. “Everybody deserves some form of health care. Covered California is one of the better exchanges in the nation, and seemingly people are not having a lot of difficulty signing up. We are going to have people there that can sign them up on the spot. We are always looking for ways to help the community and this is definitely one of the ways by helping people navigate the system.”

Featured speakers scheduled for the event include Pasadena Public Health Director Dr. Eric Walsh, AARP spokesperson Alice Benjamin and Young and Healthy Pasadena Outreach Coordinator Whitney Harrison. Enrollment specialists will also be on site to answer questions and make appointments for registration.
The event will be moderated by local health care consultant Debra Ward-Samad.
