Rock with a Celtic accent
Anita and the Yanks Holds court at Novel Café
By John Sollenberger 11/23/2011
Following one’s muse sometimes means traveling far and wide. Irish singer and guitarist Anita Mansfield did just that back in 1997, when she made the big move to the United States. By all accounts, it was a good move, as she’s achieved critical buzz since then with her Celtic-rock band, Anita and the Yanks. Friday night, you can catch the result in a show at Pasadena’s Novel Café.
Mansfield first landed in Boston, but after several years relocated to the LA area. After spending time playing keyboards in the U2 tribute band Electrical Storm, she and mandolin player Bryan Dobbs formed Anita and the Yanks in 2008.
Since then, the band’s unique style has led to a huge fan base, and performs frequently around the area. The material ranges from the traditional to upbeat pop, carried by Mansfield’s sparkling vocals.
Anita and the Yanks’ newest disc is “Face the Wind.”
