On Saturday, the Pasadena Rugby Football Club became the Southern California Blue Division Champions after beating the South Orange County Gators 64 to 10.
With the victory, PRFC will represent Southern California at the Blue Division National Championships in Columbia, SC.
The local club will play two games — first on May 12 against Northern California's Mission Rugby Football Club, followed by a second match May 13. If PRFC wins both games, the squad advances to a championship game June 9 in San Diego.
Founded in 1971 by former Japanese national rugby player Kei Takarabe, PRFC competes in the Southern California Rugby Football Union. The team has been White Division champs from 1990 to 1992 and the 2002 Blue Division champions.
The club currently practices at Arcadia Park and plays games at Alhambra High School.
