SERVING IT UP HOT
Rocking soul band Café R&B cooks at the Langham

IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR SOME HOT MUSIC THAT’S SCARY GOOD ON HALLOWEEN, Café R&B is serving up a steaming plate of rocking soul and R&B at the Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa Saturday night.
This band boasts a singer and front person known only as Roach, a little lady with a big voice who takes over a room with her hot stage presence. With a vocal and overall performing style reminiscent of greats of the soul and blues genre (think Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin or Etta James), Roach and her virtuoso band mates will rock you out of your seat.
Some may remember Roach and her husband, Café R&B guitarist Byl Carruthers, from their band Roach and the White Boys. I caught them at a show in Westwood back in the early ’80s, and it was a high-energy spectacle to behold.
Café R&B is a different style of music from the solid rock of the White Boys, but the show is just as intense in its own way.
Music starts at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Langham, Huntington Hotel, 1401 S. Oak Knoll Ave., Pasadena. Call (626) 568-3900.
