Shake your groove thing
The Boogie Knights bring back the ’70s Friday at the Civic

First they brought in a Fab Four tribute band to revive the excitement of The Beatles onstage. Then they hosted Super Diamond’s high-energy run through the classics of Neil Diamond. And now, on Friday Pasadena Entertainment will be making music fans shake their groove things when The Boogie Knights bring the ’70s to life in the third show of the Summer Soundzz concert series, located on a giant outdoor stage in front of the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
With nearly 50 songs in their booty-shakin’ repertoire and a full slate of nationwide tour dates, The Boogie Knights are widely regarded as the best disco tribute band in the nation. They were originally formed in October 1992 as a Halloween gag at a Los Angeles party, with the members all sporting ridiculous ’70s attire while blasting their way through an array of classics. They have since gone on to build an international fan base through appearances on MTV and in numerous films.
Whether music fans are dying to dance to Kool and the Gang’s “Celebration,” the Bee Gees’ “Jive Talking,” Rick James’ “Give It To Me Baby” or The Trammps’ “Disco Inferno,” the Knights offer up more choices than a Time-Life music collection. Pasadena Entertainment executive producer Andre Vener notes that after the first two Summer Soundzz shows’ emphasis on rock, the Knights provide a fun change of pace leading into the series’ final concert by the ’80s tribute band The Spazmatics on Aug. 20.
“Boogie Knights are the top disco revival band. There is so much fun and energy when they perform it’s infectious,” says Vener. “Everyone will be dancing under the stars to some of the funkiest music of the 70’s at The Boogie Knights show.”
Boogie Knights perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium Plaza, 300 E. Green St., Pasadena. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $30 for a table seat and $250 for a private table for 10. Call Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000 or visit coolpasadena.com or ticketmaster.com.
