TLC to film giant Rice Krispie treat at LCF
By Jessica Hamlin 03/11/2010
A childhood dream comes true Sunday when the world’s largest Rice Krispie treat — 7,000 pounds of marshmallows and 5,000 pounds of Rice Krispies — is unveiled at the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge.
A TLC special called “Mega Bites” will film the building process and presentation, led by “Top Chef” season three finalist Brian Malarkey, a food scientist and an engineer.
From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. the center is hosting a carnival fundraiser, which includes the sale of pieces from the giant treat to benefit the center’s children’s arts program. Volunteers are needed for the carnival from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Volunteers can help build the treat Thursday from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. (adults); Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (adults, no kids under 10) and from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. (no kids under 8); and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (adults and teens) and from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. (all ages).
To volunteer, call (818) 790-4353 or write office@cclcf.org ASAP. The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge is at 4469 Chevy Chase Drive, La Cañada Flintridge.
