For those who like their nightlife on the earlier side, check out happy hour at the Brass Elephant bar inside Monrovia’s Aztec Hotel, a refurbished historic structure built for modern-day fun and games, complete with full bar and ice-cold beer.

Friday night, after-work entertainment comes compliments of the acoustic duo The Mellow Dz, with guitarist/vocalist Dave Osti and singer Deanna Cogan holding down a regular Friday happy-hour slot there for more than a year.

Osti and Cogan’s 300-plus repertoire features acoustic versions of classic rock favorites by acts as diverse as Led Zeppelin, Sheryl Crow, Bob Seger, Joni Mitchell, Pink Floyd and Jim Croce, among many others, plus the duo’s original songs.

Osti describes the show as “Sonny and Cher on acid,” mainly because they’ve spiced up their songs with big doses of humor.

The Mellow Dz have honed their chops over the years through Cogan’s experience as one of the Merkettes, (of Mercy and the Merkettes); Osti also leads the Dirty Dave Osti Band, records on his own label and frequently works with various other area bands.

Music runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Aztec Hotel, 311 W. Foothill Blvd., Monrovia. Call (626) 358-3231.
