It’s time once again to get out of your car and onto a bicycle with the city of Pasadena celebrating its eighth annual Bike Week, starting Sunday and running through May 17.

Presented by the Pasadena Department of Transportation and the Los Angeles–based bicycle advocacy organization Cyclists Inciting Change thru Live Exchange (C.I.C.L.E.), the week will be filled with community activities designed to promote bicycle culture.

The week will start with Bike Ed Day on Sunday, with presentations on bicycle traffic safety at 10 a.m. and bicycle maintenance at 11 a.m. at Incycle, 175 S. Fair Oaks Ave.

The rest of the week will include Monday’s Taste of Pasadena ride through several of the city’s top restaurants, Tuesday’s Shop by Bike Day with discounts and incentives for those who arrive by bicycle, Wednesday’s Women on Bikes Night offering a social ride and safety clinic for women, Thursday’s Bike to Work Day and Friday’s Bike-In Movie Night featuring a screening of “The Goonies” at Paseo Colorado.

The week will culminate with two big events on May 17, as the Kaiser Permanente Ride, Roll and Stroll opens up miles of streets throughout Pasadena exclusively to those riding bikes or otherwise traveling on foot, skates or any non-motorized means. Starting at 11 a.m. at City Hall, the open-streets bike ride will include an organized route with Mayor Bill Bogaard leading the way and it is free to both participants and spectators, although participants are asked to RSVP at the event Web site, visitpasadena.com/riderollstroll.

Later in the day, Stage 7 of The Amgen Tour of California, America’s largest and most prestigious professional cycling stage race, will enter Pasadena on the historic Colorado Street Bridge and then traverse through downtown before concluding in front of City Hall at approximately 3 p.m. The Amgen Tour of California Lifestyle Festival will offer a daylong celebration and gathering place near the finish line.
