Jim Malcolm brings his Scottish storytelling style to Caltech
By John Sollenberger 01/21/2010
THE CALTECH FOLK MUSIC SOCIETY, well-known for bringing in top performers from all over America and the world over, presents Scottish storyteller Jim Malcolm Saturday night.
Formerly lead singer of the Scottish group Old Blind Dogs, Malcolm talks out many of his songs as stories while performing traditional and original compositions on harmonica and guitar.
Over the years, Malcolm has received numerous award nominations for his music, winning Songwriter of the Year in the Scots Trade Music Awards of 2004.
The singer/songwriter has kept a busy solo schedule since leaving Old Blind Dogs, performing at folk clubs and festivals in the US, Germany, Canada, Denmark, Ireland and England. He’s also made numerous TV and radio appearances in Britain and has released a string of solo discs. His latest is the just-released “The First Cold Day.”
Music starts at 8 p.m. Saturday at Beckman Institute Auditorium (not to be confused with the larger Beckman Auditorium) on the Caltech campus, 1200 E. California Blvd., Pasadena. Call (626) 395-4652.
