The Ash still burns
Wishbone Ash celebrates 40 years of rocking
By John Sollenberger 07/22/2010
With so many great rock acts of the late 1960s gone to the trash bin of foggy memory, it’s good to see that some are still out there, still rocking after all these years. On Wednesday night, you can catch a band that’s stood the test of time, as Wishbone Ash fires up Arcadia Blues Club.
This rocking English band celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. But this is no nostalgia tour. Headed by guitarist Andy Powell, with serious slide guitar work of Muddy Manninen, the band has never stopped playing or touring, racking up a huge list of discs. Songs like “Way of the World” or their recent “Reason to Believe” reveal clean, blues-rock chops and progressive-rock virtuosity. There have been personnel changes over the years, but the band just gets better. In addition to Powell and Manninen, Bob Skeat holds down the bass duties while Joe Crabtree keeps the rhythm tight on drums. Their latest CD is “The Power of Eternity.”
Wishbone Ash starts at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Arcadia Blues Club, 16 E. Huntington Drive, Arcadia. Tickets are $20 advance, $25 at the door. Call (626) 447-9349 or visit arcadiabluesclub.com.
