4,179 American military deaths have occurred in Iraq, including 1 soldier shot dead Tuesday when his unit showed up to search for a potential suicide bomber in a home in Northern Iraq, AP reported.
30,702 US military personnel members have been wounded in Iraq, 13,530 of them too severely to return to duty, according to the Department of Defense.
54 percent of the 100,000 former insurgents who changed their allegiance to the United States in exchange for monthly pay were transferred from US to Iraqi payrolls last week, reported USA Today.
18,900 prisoners are in US custody in Iraq, and 26,000 more are in Iraqi custody, according to the Brookings Institution. 10,000 was the peak prison population under Saddam Hussein.
900 Polish troops will be going home from Iraq after Poland official ended its role in the war Saturday, reported The New York Times. Italy, Spain, Japan, Armenia and other nations have already left.
