As of Tuesday, day 2,111 of the war in Iraq…

4,219 members of the US military, including 11 Pentagon civilians, have died in Iraq, according to the Department of Defense.

1 of them was Army Surgeon Dr. John Pryor (pictured), former director of the University of Pennsylvania’s trauma center, who was killed on Christmas, AP reported. He compared his Army work to treating victims of street violence in Philadelphia.

22 people were killed and more than 50 were wounded Saturday by car bombs in Baghdad, reported the Washington Post. On the same day, IraqBodyCount.net released a report that violence was decreasing in Iraq.

90,147 civilians have died since the war began, about 9,000 of them this year — about 25 people per day — according to IraqBodyCount.net.

$583.7 billion has been spent so far on the war, $283.2 million of it Pasadena taxpayers’ share.
