Big Mama's showcases Artwork Jamal's unique blues style
By John Sollenberger 05/31/2012
Tuesday night, get out of the house and treat yourself to fine barbecue while enjoying some cutting-edge blues provided by Artwork Jamal at Big Mama’s Rib Shack.
Jamal brings something a little out of the ordinary, as blues players go. While the LA-based, multi-instrumentalist and singer is well-versed in the classic styles of Memphis and Chicago blues, pulling influences from legends like Freddie King, Muddy Waters, B.B. King and Howlin’ Wolf, he doesn’t stop there. He also adds a skillful touch of classic rock and psychedelic styles, such as Jimi Hendrix and the Allman Brothers, to the mix.
Jamal’s resume includes credits as a recording engineer and the producer of numerous records, having worked with acts including The Gap Band, Carole King, The Temptations and Aaron Neville. On the performing side, he gained a coveted spot on the main stage at the Monterey Blues Festival and has added his voice to recordings with a variety of artists.
