Smash Mouth, which takes over The Rose in Pasadena Saturday, broke out in 1997 with their rock hit “Walkin’ on the Sun” and they’ve been doing the job ever since.

The band released “Playlist: The Very Best of Smash Mouth” in 2016, as part of Sony’s “Playlist” CD series. The disc features 12 of the band’s favorites, culled from live recordings of two 2014 concerts, one in Rapid City, South Dakota, and the other in Manila.

Saturday night, fans can expect to hear other hit songs, including “All Star,” “Then the Morning Comes” and “I’m A Believer.” That song thrust Smash Mouth into big-screen fame in the soundtrack to “Shrek.” Their touring schedule attests to the fact that the Bay Area rockers are as relevant as ever.
